b33 Tutorial – Selecting and sewing stitches (5/7)

Are you ready to make your first sewing project on your bernette 33? In this tutorial video, we show you how to select the desired stitch using the stitch selector dial. For example, you set it to straight stitch by setting the stitch selector dial to position "A". You can then adjust the stitch length as required. When you start sewing, first press the reverse lever and sew some reverse stitches to secure the seam. As you sew, the markings on the needle plate help you to guide the fabric edge through in a straight line. At the end of your seam, secure it with a few reverse stitches as well, and then pull the threads backwards to cut them off with the thread cutter. The video also shows you how to select other stitches, adjust the stitch length and fine-tune the width of the zigzag.

b35 + b33 Tutorial – Sewing on buttons (6/7)

Once you've sewn your buttonholes, as demonstrated in one of the previous tutorial videos, in this video we show you how to sew on buttons with ease using your bernette 35 or 33. Lower the feed dog and attach the button-sew-on foot. Then select the zigzag stitch, place the button under the presser foot and lower the foot. Using the handwheel, check  whether the needle is in the right place or if you need to adjust the stitch width to the distance between the holes in the button. Sew about 10 stitches, making sure you leave sufficient length when trimming the threads. Using a hand sewing needle, you can now wind the threads around the thread shank and then knot them on the reverse.
